Why do you knock Vampire: the Masquerade?

A.) Because it has produced entirely too many people who

  1. Want to be what they think a vampire is;
  2. Claim to be vampires when they are not;

B.) Because some of the terms that were in use before White Wolf came along were implemented into Vampire: the Masquerade terminology; and a lot of the terminology that White Wolf made up for their role-playng game has been picked up by general vampire fans, -- and now is even used by some vampires! This only serves to confuse things terribly, as when someone contacts me, claiming that s/he is a vampire, but is using V:tM parlance; s/he might be only a role-player, or a poser, or an actual vampire. -- Who knows? It just makes what I do all the more difficult;

O.) There is an intrinsic danger in getting lost in one's role; particularly so, I feel, in Vampire: the Masquerade, simply because it's so alluring and seductive. Not everyone may have a problem with this, but there are some individuals who can't handle it.

I am more down on V:TM than other romantic / stylish / powerful / alluring / blah-blah, etc. vampire-related materials due to the fact that RPGs actively encourage (indeed, require!) one to create comprehensive personas, the more complete the "better"! -- And what use is a persona if it's just lying around on the kitchen table, hmmm?

I don't personally have anything against role-players or White Wolf, Inc.
